Furniture store liquidations are often highly profitable. This depends on the condition, size and quality of the inventory plus other factors. Our Consultants know furniture and they know how to get the most out of it.

Our furniture sales are consistently successful any time of the year, year-in, year-out. Compared to most other kinds of stores, furniture stores can be easier to liquidate and more profitable. Consequently there are liquidators who take advantage of the situation. Some will run the sale and charge a percentage of sales. They take control of the store and load it with poor quality merchandise. All receipts go into an escrow account that they control. They usually bring in their own salespeople and let yours go. Their salespeople are paid a percentage commission in addition to the percentage you pay the sales company. To close sales their salespeople have the authority to take 20% off the sale price without asking your permission. There goes much of your profit.

Others will offer to buy your inventory provided they can run a Liquidation Sale using your good name. They will take an inventory, depreciate your merchandise and end up paying you considerably less than anticipated. Again, they bring in their own salespeople and let your people go. They then bring in inferior merchandise, take long markups and pay you a small percentage of sales that are over and above the amount they paid for your inventory. They often leave the owner stuck with a substantial amount of unsold promotional merchandise after the sale ends.

These scenarios can be made to sound good until you’ve been through it. You’ll probably come out alright, but don’t expect to make a killing and let’s hope you aren’t planning to continue to live in the area. In these deals there are all kinds of ways to “skin a cat” and these guys know them all.
